Make sure sudo and git are installed on your Debian 10 machine. But before running the install script, run a “sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade”.

As I told you before in centos 7 script will not work, please try to use Debian 10 or 11 and run the script.

Logged in as root? try run install from vm console (not SSH) as root. On Debian 10+ seems there is a jail or something enabled for connections over ssh. You could also try su root and install that way as you may not have your default user added to the sudoers list.
Install Debian 10 on vm ware?
Mine is running on a cluster and I have video console (as though I have connected a monitor to a physical machine) access to the machine. You can use anything that has a video console. Virtualbox, VMware, physical machine with monitor etc.
